24 Jun London Teacher of the Year Awards

Assistant/Headteacher of the Year Louise Ryer of Thornhill Primary School, presented by Rosalind Azouzi of The Royal Aeronautical Society.

“Louise Ryer masterminds Thornhill’s Enrichment Fridays. Every Friday afternoon, the whole school is taken off timetable and away from ordinary classes and teachers, to focus on projects designed to develop team work, resilience and problem solving.

The projects are run by support staff, outside providers and community volunteers, with activities including yoga, massage and reflexology, sculpture, forestry, kayaking and elderly care. They are extremely popular with parents and children, and have had a phenomenal impact on curricular performance.

In addition to the Enrichment Fridays, Ms Ryer also leads on the whole-school curriculum, teaches the most vulnerable pupils in year 6, and provides support at another local school.”

A huge congratulations to Ms Ryer on her well-deserved award. Alongside Ms Mohamed, who was highly commended in the ‘Primary school teacher of the year’ category, this is a ringing endorsement of the quality of education provided here at Thornhill.
